Introduction

Hello! I’m glad you’ve come across this collection of writings and poems and I hope you enjoy them as they give insight into some of the biggest small parts of my life.
I’ve attempted to document enjoyable memories that involved rolling, floating, or sliding; activities that were always a fixture in my head and are now some of the things I remember when I daydream. I’ve lived a life of activity. Climbing. Running. Running away. Years wonderfully squandered on the waves of the ocean and miles in the saddle.

Around my 45 birthday, in lieu of a midlife crisis, I started to
experience some peculiar things while being active and now recognize these as symptoms of a condition that I inherited. I was dagnosed with a neurological condition, Ataxia, that has progressively affected my muscles, speech, and coordination. My family never treated me as disabled but instead pushed me to be strong and adapt to the situation that affected my body.As you may learn from these selections, life has been a journey

It's a wonder I made it to college after the incident with the principals at the high school I sometimes attended. But I did and I’m sure my roommates remember the nights at the dorm; I hear we had a good time. I’ve learned that being serious withouthaving fun is not how I want to be remembered.

I’ve surfed the Outer Banks, skied moguls in the Appalachians, cycled to the coast of Carolina and learned to get around with a wheelchair. Twenty years later, Itaying as active as possible and continually learning to adapt. Writing has been a way to free my mind, take me back and carry me forward.
